In Indore, a wild leopard strayed into a residential area on Thursday injuring five people, including a one-year-old girl, according to officials. After a five-hour tussle with the leopard, was finally tranquilized with dart gun and officials took the leopard to the zoo. Once regains consciousness, a medical examination will be conducted before being released into the wild again, said an officer.
The leopard sauntered into Limbodi a prominent residential area in Indore and its surrounding areas from a nearby forest and attacked five people- a 1-year-old toddler, a 30-year-old woman, a watchman, an employee of a zoo, and an employee of the forest department, the officials said.
A resident of Limbodi’s Shankar Mohalla Khemraj Rathore said, “The leopard entered my house as the door was open, and bit my wife. At that time, she was cooking and three children were studying inside.”
He said, “After hearing their screams, I scared away the leopard with a stick.”
“The leopard was trapped in an under-construction building in Limbodi area using a net and later tranquilized with the help of a dart gun,” Kamla Nehru Zoo in-charge Dr. Uttam Yadav told PTI.
There were a few viral videos circulating on social media about the attack. One video shows a man, bleeding profusely after the leopard’s attack while searching desperately for his toddler daughter, whom the leopard tried to catch. In that video, the people were trying to calm him down telling him his daughter was taken to a hospital and he should also get himself treated.
Another video shows the leopard coming out of the under-construction building and attacking a rescue team member who falls down, following which people sounded for help, and made a noise whereby the leopard rushed back under the shelter of the concrete structure.
The highly developed city of Indore in Madhya Pradesh has six heavily forested jungle resorts nearby, home to hundreds of species of wild animals.
