Bogota: Two people were killed and two others injured in an explosion at a coal mine in Penas de Aguila village in Tepeaga, Colombia.

The accident was caused by a gas leak. Topanga Mayor Alvaro Barrera said the explosion left two workers scorched in critical condition. He said that relief and rescue were started after the explosion.

Members of the National Mining Agency, Boyaca Police, and civil security personnel rushed to the spot as soon as the blast was reported.

He said that the breathing apparatus is being used during inspection due to excess carbon dioxide. The dead have been identified, including one from Colombia and the other from Venezuela.
