The war in Ukraine threatens to unleash an unprecedented wave of global hunger and destitution to leave millions hungry says the U.N.

The U.N. sent out a message that the War in Ukraine threatens to unleash a crisis over the world of hunger and destitution, eventually.

The consequences of Russia’s war on a world still battling a horrific pandemic are threatening to leave millions hungry due to climbing food and energy prices, a new United Nations report said.

Published by the U.N. Global Crisis Response Group on Food, Energy, and Finance on Wednesday, the report said the war has expanded human suffering beyond the borders of Ukraine and has “exacerbated a global cost-of-living crisis unseen in at least a generation.”

“Three months into the Russian invasion of Ukraine, we face a new reality,” U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said in a press conference.

“For those on the ground, every day brings new bloodshed and suffering,” he said. “And for the people around the world, the war, together with other crises, is threatening to unleash an unprecedented wave of hunger and destitution, leaving social and economic chaos in its wake.”

During the last fully Ukrainian-controlled city in the Luhansk region, troops repelled a Russian attack on the southern outskirts of Lysychansk, Governor Serhiy Haidai said on Friday. The regional governor also wrote on Telegram that Ukraine will withdraw its troops defending Sievierodonetsk, which has been the focus of heavy fighting, adding that it made “no sense” to keep fighters in such a heavily compromised position.

Touching moments are seen in the midst of the war and Anton Gerashchenko shared a video of Bambi found in the forest, trembling with fear due to the bomb explosions while soldiers are stroking the deer, and he said,   “Ukrainian military discovered a group of Roe deer in the forest, they were trembling with fear and trying to hide from the explosions of Russian missiles.”
