BJP MP from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi Ram Swaroop Sharma was found dead at his residence, hanging from the ceiling, in Delhi on Wednesday. He is survived by his wife and three sons.
The door was closed from inside and the police received a call from a staffer when they found his body was hanging from the ceiling fan at his flat in Gomti Apartments near RML Hospital. The reason for the suicide is unknown and police have launched an investigation into the matter.
Born at Jalpehar village in Mandi district in 1958, Sharma was a two-time MP. He was first elected to the Parliament in 2014. He was re-elected from Mandi in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
Several leaders expressed their grief at his passing such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister, Amit Shah, Kuldeep Singh Rathore, President, Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee, among many others.
Ram Swaroop Sharma was a member of the Standing Committee on External Affairs and the Consultative Committee, Ministry of External Affairs.
Meanwhile, BJP has canceled its Parliamentary Party meeting, scheduled for Wednesday morning, after learning about Sharma’s demise.

BJP’s Ram Swaroop Sharma is the second Lok Sabha MP to die under mysterious circumstances within the last few weeks. Earlier, Dadra and Nagar Haveli MP Mohan Delkar, a seven-term Lok Sabha member, was found hanging in a Mumbai hotel on February 22.
