IndiaSix injured, one dies in bomb attack, police claim BJP activists making crude bombs when one exploded

Bengal: Six BJP activists were injured from a bomb explosion on Bengal’s Gosaba, South 24 Parganas district on Friday night, one died on Sunday, while one is critical.  The police claim that the explosion happened while the BJP activists were making crude bombs inside a house and one accidentally went off.

The family members of the injured, however, state that local TMC activists threw bombs at the BJP activists when they were eating food in a house.  Another source alleged that local Trinamool Congress activists hurled bombs at the BJP activists when they were returning home in the Gosaba area from a marriage ceremony late Friday night.

The police, however, claimed that the incident happened inside the home of a BJP activist where the crude bombs being manufactured went off accidentally.  When the explosion occurred, bomb squads were immediately sent to the house and they discovered crude bombs stashed near the house.

A huge number of police officers have been deployed at the spot, the bomb squad, and the forensic department as per the officer said.

The police officer states, “We have listened to the claims of the family members of those injured but it seems that they were manufacturing bomb when it exploded.”

The officer also stated, “We are investigating the matter and talking to the locals.”

The officer also added, “Nobody has been arrested in connection with the blast.”

BJP activist, Sobhan Debnath, 25 years old, died at Canning Hospital on Sunday, while the others have been shifted to SSKM Hospital.

SP Indrajit Basu says, “It is evident that the blast took place while they were preparing the bombs.”

Investigations are on and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is also taking up the case.

The TMC and other parties have blamed the BJP for “sponsoring terrorism” in Bengal just before the elections.

While Assembly elections in Bengal would kick off from March 27 in eight phases, it is a tough battle between the TMC and the BJP. Both the parties have incriminated each other for inflaming violence in the run-up to the polls.  Gosaba specifically is a reserved Assembly seat and will go to polls in the second phase of the upcoming Bengal elections on April 1. The results of the Assembly polls will be given on May 2.
