Recently, when Elon Musk announced he would like to bring Starlink satellite internet service to India anytime in 2022, it sent tremors in India. Stepping in would realign things and would stand in rivalry with Ambani’s Jio. According to reports, Starlink has already started accepting pre-bookings and the services could be launched very soon. It is a wireless Internet geared for India with an aim to make it cheaper than Jio with an outreach to places unreached with the Internet, such as villages, etc, so Starlink Internet is gauged to be affordable to all.
Elon Musk is a South African-born Canadian industrial engineer, entrepreneur, founded aerospace transportation services company SpaceX which has already sent in 1000 satellites in space, his electric car company Telsa is the greatest in the world, he co-founded Paypal among a host of other things. He now surprised India when he said he would like to bring Starlink to India.
What is Starlink one would ask? Starlink is a satellite internet constellation to provide broadband internet with a superfast speed of 50-150 Mbps. Starlinks satellite internet speed is the fastest on earth 60 times more than other speeds.
The Starlink service is operated by SpaceX, an aerospace company owned by Elon Musk. Musk has already said that the speed will be doubled to 300 Mbps by the end of 2021. The company is charging a fully refundable deposit of USD 99 (Rs 7300) towards the Starlink equipment. The equipment will be installed at the consumer’s place to allow access to internet service.
Musk also said that Starlink project will cover most of Earth by end of the year, all by next year, then “it’s about densifying coverage.” According to Starlink, its services are ideally suited for areas of the globe where connectivity has typically been a challenge.
Elon Musk’s entry into India could make things complicated for Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani because there would be huge business shifts all over, and Jio could never compete with Starlink. It is also said that Musk is so wealthy that he could buy Abani and Adani and still have so much wealth left over, with his net worth of $197 billion. Ambani of Reliance’s net worth is $83 billion, the richest person in India.
Forty-nine-year-old Musk added $151 billion over the last year and makes nearly a billion dollars every two days, with a large volume of his wealth coming in from his 21 percent stake in Tesla. SpaceX, where he holds a 52 percent share, added $13 billion in value in the past year, according to the Hurun Global Rich List 2021.
Vice President of Satellite Government Affairs Patricia Cooper said that his project would provide better network connectivity in the country. The company has planned to send 12000 network satellites to space They say that under the company’s Starlink project, Indian citizens will get strong broadband connectivity through high-speed satellite networks.
All tycoons in the world would like to shake hands with Musk, but he remains elusive and never takes the low middle road to reach his starry goals. Therefore, he certainly did send waves in India when he stated he intended to step in next year. It seems his entrance to India would shake up the Ambani empire because he is heading straight to the Ambani arena of Internet zones with his SpaceX and Starlink.
