Rohtak, Haryana: In a tragic incident, shocking the city, there was a big shootout in the Kushti arena of the city killing five and injuring seven at a wrestling centre, Rohtak’s Mehar Singh Akhada in Rohtak, Haryana on Friday.
In Mehar Singh Arena, near Dev Colony in Rohtak, an unidentified man fired at the wrestling area and killed five people, including a child and his mother. The attacker escaped from the scene. The wrestling center is close to a college.
Those who succumbed to their injuries were Manoj Malik, a resident of Sargathala village in Sonepat, his wife Sakshi, female wrestler Pooja from Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, coach Satish Kumar from Mandothi village, Rohtak, and Pradeep Malik, from village Mokhara. Three-year-old Sartaj, son of Amarjeet Singh and coach Manoj Kumar, a resident of Nindana, a coach at Dev Colony, were injured. Police sources say that among the injured is a three-year-old boy of one of the deceased.
Police said the initial investigation indicates that the firing took place due to an old rivalry.
Police have taken custody of the bodies and sent them for post-mortem. Seven people suffered bullet injuries in the firing and the injured have been admitted to nearby hospitals.
It is said that there is a “law and order situation in Khattar-Dushyant where criminals have been elevated so that the people of Haryana are forced to live under the shadow of “nakara” rule!”

Rohtak Range IG Sandeep Khirwar told PTI that forensic experts and police investigators were at the scene of the crime.
