Farmer representatives said the government should solve farmers’ problems if it wants peace

New Delhi: Farmers’ organizations on Tuesday rejected the government’s proposal to set up a committee to address agricultural problems and passed a resolution to continue the agitation.

After the meeting which lasted for about three-and-a-half hours, Agriculture Minister Mr. Narendra Singh Tomar said that there was good dialogue between the government and farmers’ organizations and the talks will continue on Thursday.

He said that the government had suggested setting up a committee to solve the problems of the farmers, but a consensus could not be reached on this.

The meeting was attended by Food and Supplies Minister Piyush Goyal and Minister of State for Commerce Mr. Som Prakash and 35 farmer leaders. The meeting started at Vigyan Bhavan at 3 p.m.

Representatives of the farmers said that if the government wants peace, it should solve the problems of the farmers. The farmers will continue their agitation.

Meanwhile, the farmers’ representatives of Maharashtra and several other states came to the national capital to express their solidarity with the movement.
