Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov meets PM Modi in Delhi, praising India for not taking a ‘one-sided’ view on the Ukraine invasion.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Friday to build up support from the Asian nation amid ongoing Western efforts to pressure world leaders to economically isolate Moscow.

The Russian Foreign Minister’s trip comes on the back of Western diplomats’ meetings in New Delhi to discuss sanctions on Moscow.

The meeting was important given that Modi was not reported to have met other top diplomats who have visited Delhi recently, including Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss, and Mexico’s Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon.

Ahead of the meeting, Lavrov said Russian President Vladimir Putin sends his greetings to Narendra Modi and is looking forward to personally doing so himself.  He also said Russia is ready to supply whatever India wants to buy.

India states it will continue to buy oil from Russia.  A visibly upset America warned that
Russia won’t come to India’s rescue if China violates LAC again said US Deputy NSA and said that there will be consequences for countries actively attempting to “circumvent or backfill” American sanctions against Moscow for its invasion of Ukraine and said it would not like to see a “rapid” acceleration in India’s import of energy and other commodities from Russia.
