New Delhi: Virtual Meet by PM Modi held with all chief ministers today at 12.30 pm. The meeting was imperative due to the COVID-19 surge across the country.

Virtual Meet by PM Modi: The prime minister encouraged states and union territories to act to contain the spread of COVID-19 in order to prevent the rise of a second wave in the country. “70 districts of the country have seen an increase of more than 150% in the last few weeks. If we don’t stop it here, a situation of a nationwide outbreak can come up,” he told the chief ministers.

The country recorded 28,903 new cases of the virus on Wednesday, making it the highest single-day spike in 2021.

The prime minister also announced that the Centre will bear the costs of vaccinating nearly three crore healthcare and frontline workers in the first round. The drive has now moved on to the next round covering people over 60 years of age, and those citizens above 45 years who have comorbidities.

India has vaccinated more than 30 million citizens against the coronavirus and 31.8 million doses have so far been administered, according to the provisional report of the Union health ministry released at 7 pm on Monday.
