Security has been beefed up after US intelligence agencies issued a warning of violence during the swearing-in ceremony of Mr. Joe Biden.

Washington: The outgoing US President Donald Trump on Wednesday appealed to his supporters not to commit violence during the swearing-in ceremony of Joe Biden, who won the recently concluded presidential election.

A statement issued by the White House said, “Mr.Trump has appealed to his supporters not to commit violence or violence of any kind.” Earlier in the day, Mr. Trump announced a state of emergency in Washington DC in the wake of Mr. Biden’s swearing-in ceremony on Monday.

It is noteworthy that the US intelligence agency FBI had issued a warning of violence during Mr. Biden’s swearing-in ceremony, following which security has been beefed up in the area. Thousands of police personnel will also be deployed as a precaution during the swearing-in ceremony.

Trump said, ‘In view of the protesters’ concerns, I urge that no one use violence or break the law. This is not what I stand for, nor is it the thing America stands for. I appeal to all Americans to help reduce stress and maintain peace.’

On the other hand, Joe Biden has tweeted saying, “Today, in a bipartisan vote, the House voted to impeach and hold President Trump accountable. Now, the process continues to the Senate—and I hope they’ll deal with their Constitutional responsibilities on impeachment while also working on the other urgent business of this nation.”
