Former Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, who quit the BJP on Sunday, formally joined the Congress party here on Monday.
Speaking about Shettar’s induction into the party, Shivakumar stated that there were no demands from Shettar, and that the party would not offer anything.
He further added that Shettar must agree to the principles and leadership of the Congress party and that the party’s objective is to keep the country united, which only the Congress party can do.
Shettar himself arrived at the Congress office in Bengaluru on Monday and officially joined the party. His decision to switch parties could have significant political implications, as he is a heavyweight in Karnataka politics. However, it remains to be seen how his joining the Congress party will affect the political landscape of the state.
It’s worth stating that political party switching is not uncommon in India and is often driven by personal ambitions, ideological differences, or issues with the functioning of the party. Nonetheless, it can have far-reaching consequences, such as leading to the formation of a new government or the collapse of an existing one.
