PoliticsProfessor calling Muslim student "terrorist" is sparking reactions

A Muslim student at Manipal Institute of Technology stands up against his professor who called him a ‘terrorist’

When the professor wanted to ask a question to the student, the student told him his name, and after hearing his name, the professor responded by saying, “Ohhh, you are Kasaab?’.

The Manipal Institute of Technology, MIT, Muslim student standing up against his professor who addressed him as ‘terrorist’ and in the video streaming on social media, recorded by a student present during the altercation, the Muslim student can be seen questioning his professor over his alleged Islamophobic remark.

The Muslim student, whose name has not been cited, was taken aback by being called a terrorist by the professor in class.  When confronted on this, the professor said it was a joke.

The boy reacts saying, “These jokes are not acceptable. No! You can’t joke about my religion..that too in such a terrible manner.”

After realizing the gravity of the situation, the professor tried to calm the situation by calling the heated student “you are just like my kid”, to which the student replied, “If my father did this to me, I would disown him.”

The professor went on to say, “It is a funny thing.” This upset the student even further who replied, “No sir, It is not a funny thing. 26/11 was not funny. Islamic terrorism is not funny. Being a Muslim in this country and facing all this every day is not funny.”

When the teacher again tried to address him as his son, the student asks him if he would call his own son a ‘terrorist’

“Will you call your own son by this..’a terrorist’? How can you call me like that? In front of so many people, in a class. You are a professor.”

Finally, the professor can be heard apologizing. But the student who is visibly upset says, “Sorry doesn’t change how you think or how you portray yourself here.”

Students can be seen holding their heads in their hands, and it was pointed out that none of the students were seen defending the student.

The incident has evoked angry reactions from several Twitter users who have come out in support of the student and praised his courage.

Someone asked, Do we know If any of his fellow students stood up for him at all later on? Because in this clip we see him sadly having to confront it by himself.

Mohammed Zubair said, “Yes they did. He says.”

Even if they could not stand up for him at that very moment. Sharing footage with the public was the best thing to do. I would not criticize other students for being silent. They may be afraid because it’s a teacher on the other side.

Because of passive subconscious support for this distorted thinking, people say this is happening.
