The next senior-most judge Justice Chandrachud will take oath on November 9 and demit the office on November 10, 2024. The Union Law Ministry had on October 7, written a letter to Lalit requesting him to recommend his successor.
Justice Chandrachud completed his LLB (Bachelor in Law, Degree) from Delhi University. He studied at Harvard University after receiving the prestigious Inlaks Scholarship. At Harvard, he completed his Master in Law (LLM) and Doctorate in Juridical Sciences (SJD).
Chandrachud practiced as an advocate in the Supreme Court, besides the High Courts of Gujarat, Calcutta, Allahabad, Madhya Pradesh, and Delhi before becoming a judge of the Bombay High Court.
