‘Don’t talk to me’: Sonia Gandhi lashes out at Smriti Irani in Lok Sabha

India'Don't talk to me': Sonia Gandhi lashes out at Smriti Irani in Lok Sabha

‘Don’t talk to me’: #SoniaGandhi lashes out at #SmritiIrani in #LokSabha when Smriti Irani intervened during Sonia’s conversation.

Congress MPs Geeta Kora and Jyotsna Mahant have claimed that Smriti Irani and even some male BJP MPs had misbehaved with Sonia Gandhi. Things got heated up and a war of words erupted between Sonia Gandhi and Smriti Irani after Lok Sabha was adjourned on Thursday.

According to sources, after the Lok Sabha was adjourned at 12 noon, the BJP MPs were raising slogans and demanding the resignation of Sonia Gandhi over Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury’s ‘rashtrapatni’ remark. The Congress leader had earlier referred to President Droupadi Murmu as ‘rashtrapatni’.

During the chaos, Sonia Gandhi approached BJP leader Rama Devi and reportedly told her that Chowdhury had apologized over the remark and asked Devi why her name was being taken in the house.

Following this, Smriti Irani intervened during their conversation. However, the agitated Congress President then turned around and said ‘don’t talk to me’, sources said.   The agitated exchange of words between the two leaders lasted for two to three minutes.

Some BJP parliamentarians are likely to move a privilege motion against the Congress chief and according to top BJP sources, the party will continue to demand Sonia Gandhi’s apology over the remark.

BJP with a misplaced sense of identity is harassing Sonia Gandhi for Adhir’s comment for which he has already apologized and the BJP pressing for her step down is clearly out of boundary lines and this is a clear case of pestering and troubling her.

Sonia Gandhi answered the NDTV reporters Thursday and said party leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has already apologized for his comments on President Droupadi Murmu, amid a controversy over remarks made by the party’s Leader in Lok Sabha on Wednesday. The Congress president’s comments came soon after Union Minister Smriti Irani raised the issue in Lok Sabha, and the House was adjourned. Chowdhury meanwhile said that the comment he made was a “slip of tongue, and a mistake”, and accused the BJP of blowing the issue out of proportion.

He went on to say, “We have immense respect for the President. It was a slip of tongue, as we were protesting at Vijay Chowk, some media persons were asking questions, I used the term just once,” Chowdhury said. The Congress leader had referred to the President as ‘Rashtrapatni’ and the BJP has raised the ruling party members and drawing criticism.
