HRDS sec. Aji Krishnan was arrested in Palakkad by the Kerala police on charges of encroaching on Adivasi land and humiliating the Adivasis.
Kerala’s Sholayur Police have arrested the Secretary of High Range Rural Development Society (HRDS) on charges of encroaching Adivasi land and insulting the tribal people and burning Adivasi houses.
The HRDS Secretary, Aji Krishnan, who reached India from Dubai, was asked to appear before Deputy SP N Muralidharan at Agali Police station in Attappadi on Monday afternoon, sources said.
He was mandated to reach the Agali station in connection with a case filed against him one year ago for allegedly encroaching on Adivasi land, insulting them by calling their caste names and burning Adivasi houses.
After waiting for two hours in the police station, he left for Palakkad after informing the police that he will come back on Tuesday. However, he was stopped by police at Anakatti Checkpost and asked to reach the Sholayur Police station. Later, he was arrested in connection with the case.
Another case was also filed against the HRDS office bearers including Aji Krishnan, Project Coordinator Joy Mathew, former vice-president Vivekanandan, Patron Swami Atma Nambi, and Vice President K G Venugopal, and another unknown person. Krishnan was also linked to the controversy on giving employment to Swapna Suresh, an accused in the diplomatic baggage gold smuggling case.
