IndiaGoa Congress alleges that BJP offered 40 crores to some of its MLAs

Goa Congress alleges that BJP offered 40 crores to some of its MLAs and thus Congress sacks Michael Lobo from the top post.

The Congress removed Mr. Lobo from the post of Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly, which has 40 members and the sacking of Mr. Lobo from the post was made by the party’s Goa desk in charge Dinesh Gundu Rao late Sunday evening, on the eve of the assembly session.

The Congress accused two of these legislators – Michael Lobo and former chief minister Digambar Kamat – of “conspiring” and “hobnobbing” with the ruling BJP to engineer a split in the grand old party’s legislative wing.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Sunday asked senior party leader Mukul Wasnik to rush to Goa to “oversee the latest political developments” in the state.

In a late-night tweet, AICC general secretary, organization, KC Venugopal, said, “Congress President has asked Shri @MukulWasnik, MP to rush to Goa to oversee latest political developments in the state.”

The development comes amid speculation that some Congress MLAs may cross over to the BJP. Precisely three years ago on this day, a group of 10 MLAs from Congress had left the party and switched over to the BJP and formed the government.

This occurs also comes close on the heels of the political turmoil in neighboring Maharashtra, where the ruling Shiv Sena split following a rebellion by senior leader Eknath Shinde, who became the Chief Minister after Uddhav Thackeray resigned from the top post in the last week of June.

Goa: Congress sacks Michael Lobo as Leader of Opposition (LoP) for hatching a conspiracy to engineer defections.

Politician deflectors should be treated as criminals who make a mockery of elections and trash democracy by flipping sides and cheating on the voter’s confidence. The horrible reality of this is that even if most of the country votes for one party but another party with more money buys all their MPs, that party gets to form the governing, nullifying the people’s votes.

Lawmakers, politicians, and the people collectively should unitedly push for a new law to disqualify horse-trading during elections and besides sacking the deflectors, make them illegible to participate in politics forever. It would discourage the rising tradition of paying them to join parties, because of course, after paying so much money and they are disqualified, all that money would go to waste, benefiting no party, which should be the goal.
