PM Modi meets French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris where the two leaders discuss the entire spectrum of bilateral matters.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has held talks with the French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris yesterday. In a statement, the MEA said, the Prime Minister met Mr. Macron in one-on-one and delegation-level formats in Paris. The two leaders carried out dialogues on the entire range of bilateral issues, including cooperation in defense, space, blue economy, civil nuclear, and people-to-people ties.

The two leaders also took stock of the regional and global security outlook and discussed ways to work together in making the India- France Strategic Partnership a force for global good.

PM Modi tweeted, “My visit to France was brief but a very fruitful one. President
@EmmanuelMacron and I got the opportunity to discuss various subjects. I thank him and the French Government for the warm hospitality.”

Prime Minister’s visit to France expressed the strong bond and goodwill not only between the two countries but also between the two leaders. The Prime Minister invited President Macron to visit India at the earliest. A Joint Statement was issued after the talks.
Earlier, Prime Minister Modi reached Paris on his way back from the 2nd India-Nordic Summit in Copenhagen.

In a tweet, Mr. Modi said, France is one of India’s strongest partners. He said both nations are cooperating in diverse areas.

Calling his Denmark visit productive, the Prime Minister said in a tweet that the programs covered different spheres ranging from diplomatic meetings, boosting cultural and commercial linkages, and engagement with the Indian community. He thanked the Prime Minister of Denmark Mette Frederiksen and the people of Denmark.

About the Second India-Nordic Summit, Mr. Modi said, this summit gave a great platform to discuss ways to strengthen ties with the Nordic nations. He said, the bilateral meetings with Nordic leaders were productive and he is looking forward to working with them in various sectors aimed at promoting prosperity.

About President Emmanuel Jean-Michel Frédéric Macron

Emmanuel Jean-Michel Frédéric Macron was on born 21 December 1977 and he is a French politician who has been serving as the president of France since 14 May 2017. He worked as a senior civil servant at the Inspectorate General of Finances and later became an investment banker at Rothschild & Co.

Macon was appointed a deputy secretary-general by President François Hollande shortly after his election in May 2012, making Macron one of Hollande’s senior advisers.

During his presidency, Macron has overseen several reforms to labor laws, taxation, and pensions, and pursued a renewable energy transition. Opposition to his domestic reforms, particularly a proposed fuel tax, culminated in the 2018 yellow vests protests and other protests.

Overall, Macron is largely seen as a centrist and others view him as a social liberal, while the rest call him a social democrat. During his time in the French Socialist Party, he supported the party’s centrist wing, whose political stance has been associated with Third Way policies advanced by Bill Clinton, Tony Blair, and Gerhard Schröder, and whose leading spokesman has been former prime minister Manuel Valls.

Emmanuel Macron’s government in February 2022 sought to give Islam a French makeover where his government drafted laws in an effort to reshape Islam in France and rid it of extremism, introducing a new body made up of clergy and laymen and women to help lead the largest Muslim community in western Europe.
