A Hindu Dalit man was brutally stabbed to death allegedly by his wife’s family in Hyderabad in cold-blooded premeditated murder.
What Led to the Murder
The Hindu man, Nagaraju (26) had married a Muslim girl, age 23, Syed Ashrin Sulthana two months ago on January 31, 2022. Allegedly, the girl’s family was upset by the marriage and his family members were tracking him down trying to find out where they were living after marriage.
On that fateful day, a man on a bike had been stalking Nagaraju at the Saroornagar Tehsildar office in Hyderabad on Wednesday, May 4th at around 9 pm that night, and Nagaraju was savagely stabbed to death
Reportedly, the assailant fled the scene. Many passersby recorded the incident on their phones and some even took pictures and videos of the horrific gory incident where Nagaraju was seen lying on the street, his head smashed and covered with blood.
The CCTV camera also caught the unfortunate event. The incident has created tensions in the area after Nagaraju’s relatives held a protest and alleged that his wife’s family was behind the murder.
Nagaraju’s wife, Syed Ashrin Sulthana, said the two had been in a relationship for a long time and Nagaraju had approached Sulthana’s family asking for her hand in marriage, but due to his “low caste” and difference in religion, was turned away. The couple secretly married in January this year at an Arya Samaj ceremony and began living in Saroornagar of Hyderabad.
However, they suspected that they were being watched by Sulthana’s family and moved to Visakhapatnam for a while, returning to the city just five days ago.
The police have registered a case under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Police Arrested Suspects
The Saroornagar police arrested Syed Ashrin Sulthana’s brother Syed Mobin Ahmed and Mohammed Masood Ahmed for their involvement in the murder. The police stated that the
accused developed a grudge against the deceased, as he had married the sister of one of the accused. The accused then hatched a plan and brutally murdered the deceased by beating him with an iron rod indiscriminately and stabbing him with a knife.
The police discovered on investigations that one month ago, the accused tried to locate the Nagaraju, but failed to find his location.
Nagaraju was a resident of Marredpally, Secunderabad and he was working as a salesman in a popular car showroom in Malakpet in the Old City. After the incident, the BJP staged a protest demanding justice and the arrest of the killers.
Telangana BJP MLA Raja Singh has called for the arrest of everyone involved in the planning and execution of the murder. “Was it the family members, or did some religious groups advise the family? Did some group promise them financial help? There should be a full-fledged inquiry into this murder.”
“We are inquiring further. I will share more details based on the investigation,” said the ACP.
