BJP leader Tajinder Bagga returns to Delhi hours after Punjab Police arrests him for ‘provocative statements’ Jeene nahi denge’.
Ahbaab Grewal mentioned on India Today that they “wanted to teach Tajinder Bagga a lesson” by arresting him to which the BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla reacts in shock. Bagga had allegedly threatened Arvind Kejriwal and said, ‘Jeene nahi denge‘ (won’t let you live)’ ,” AAP’s Delhi MLA Naresh Balyan tweeted on Friday morning. Bagga is the national secretary of the BJP’s youth wing.
Notorious Trolling of Tajinder Bagga
Well, even to tell someone casually, won’t let you live is provocative enough when talking about hate speech, free speech, or death threats. One could guess if anyone could say that same line to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, they too would be arrested. Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga is notorious for Internet trolling.
Tajinder Bagga started his political career with the Bhagat Singh Kranti Sena (BSKS), and used his Twitter handle, on which he has close to 1 million followers, to constantly attack CM Arvind Kejriwal. He coined the word “anti-national” for Indians and caught the eye of the BJP for his horrendous defaming trolling. He popularized cyberbullying among the IT cell of the right-wing which became so toxic it led Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to ask for different teams from Congress with positive messages to “counteract” the noxious online hate.
Tajinder Bagga invoked boycotting several celebrities who criticized the BJP government, calling them “anti-national” besides attacking them with provocative statements and name-calling. He did a huge hunger strike for eight days to seek justice for Nirbahaya and did another hunger strike demanding action against the culprits of the 1984 Sikh massacre.” He hung posters with controversial contents, including one in which he called Rajiv Gandhi “the father of mob lynching.”
In 2015, his outfit Bhagat Singh Kranti Sena launched online news and opinion blog called ‘NaMo Patrika’ dedicated to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The same year, he was among the BJP social media influencers who met PM Modi at his official residence. Two years later, he was designated as the party’s spokesperson to draw the youth ahead of the MCD polls.
Why Was Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga Arrested
BJP leader Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga was arrested by Punjab Police on Friday morning. The father of Bagga said, “The police personnel who came to our home today morning said that Tajinder gave a death threat to Arvind Kejriwal. The Delhi Police had no information about the incident; A DCP is here now,” Preetpal Singh Bagga, father of BJP leader Tajinder Pal S Bagga.
The police also reported, “Today morning following due process of law, Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga has been arrested from his home in Janakpuri, New Delhi. He is being brought to Punjab and will be produced in court. Further investigation is being done by a special team,” the state police said in a statement.
On May 6th, the Delhi Police filed an FIR against the Punjab Police for “abduction” and “assault” Hours after being arrested by the Punjab Police, BJP leader Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga returned to Delhi on Friday evening.
After Delhi Police took Bagga’s custody, Punjab officers approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court against the “detention” of its police team in Kurukshetra. Terming the intervention by the Haryana Police ‘a violation of law’, Advocate General (AG) Anmol Rattan Sidhu claimed that everything was going as per procedure but the Haryana officers delayed the process. The Punjab government also asked the court to not let the Delhi Police cross the Haryana border with Bagga.
Following his arrest earlier in the day, Bagga was taken to a police station in Haryana after the Delhi Police accused the Punjab Police team of not following due procedure. A Haryana police officer was quoted saying, “We have brought Bagga and the Punjab police team to the Thanesar police Station, Kurukshetra. We have questioned the Punjab policemen.” A team of Delhi Police has reached the police station, while Punjab ADGP Sharad Satya Chauhan is also expected to arrive in Kurukshetra.
The Senior Superintendent of Police, SAS Nagar Mohali, had then sent a letter to his counterpart in Kurukshetra, requesting the release of the Punjab Police team and the accused, Bagga, so that he may be presented before the court “in time as per law”. The SSP added that the team is stopped in Haryana “tantamounts to illegal detention and interference in the administration of criminal justice system”.
The Delhi Police has filed an FIR against the Punjab Police for “abduction” and “assault”. Bagga was picked up by the Punjab Police Friday morning from his residence in West Delhi in connection with an inflammatory statements case. Tajinder Bagga’s mother while speaking to The Indian Express alleged that the police didn’t allow her son to tie his siropa before the arrest and the police assaulted his father while he was trying to take a video of the incident. She accused the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of “daadagiri”.
So much for the arrest of Tajinder Bagga that involved three states along with a sensational accusation of kidnapping. People are wondering if all this was just a distraction to keep the citizens’ focus on this, away from the really serious pressing issues in India such as job losses, inflation, crashing economy, and the high COVID death rate that was played down.
