IndiaRajasthan gov gives free CT scans, MRIs, dialysis etc today onwards

Rajasthan Congress-ruled Government implemented the Universal Healthcare Programme for all in state completely free from April 1st onwards.

Anshuman from Congress shared, “OPD receipts for important tests like CT Scan, MRIs,s, and treatments like dialysis will be completely free from today onwards in Rajasthan.”

Last year in 2021, the Rajasthan government launched the universal health scheme where the 3,000 crore Chiranjeevi Health Insurance Scheme gives an annual cashless insurance cover of Rs.10 lakh to every family in the state and universalizes healthcare in the state—free for the poor and dirt cheap for the rest.

“I am close to realizing my dream of ensuring that nobody in the state ends up spending their life savings on hospital expenses,’’ said Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot to India Today.

An estimated 600,000 families had signed up against the expected 3 million between April 1, when the scheme opened to the public, and May 3.

Strengthening the public healthcare system and making it accessible to the public has always been at the core of Gehlot’s policies. In his first term as chief minister (1998-2003), he introduced free treatment, including surgeries, for BPL (below poverty line) families; in 2011, he introduced free medicines for all at state healthcare centers.

Ashok Gehlot has always been generous when it comes to healthcare, willing to open the state coffers to even expand central schemes. The free medicines scheme is a case in point—Gehlot last year had a budget of Rs 972 crore for it, three times more than the Centre’s contribution. There are free medical tests at all levels of care—in FY21, a COVID year, the state tested 11.8 million patients free, at a cost to the state of Rs 230 crore.

She asked the government to ensure proper allocation for MGNREGA and payment of wages within 15 days of work, Sonia said, “Poor workers cannot be punished by stopping the money. The MGNREGA, which was mocked by several people a few years ago, gave timely help to crores of affected families during Covid and lockdown and played a positive Sonia Gandhi flags MGNREGA budget cut.

BJP retaliated and Union Minister Anurag Thakur alleged “corruption” in the scheme during the UPA rule and said, the “allocated budget was not utilized” during its tenure. Alleging “massive corruption” in the MGNREGA scheme under the UPA government, “which was weeded out by the Modi government”, Thakur said under PM Narendra Modi’s geo-tagging of assets created under MGNREGA was introduced.

The MGNREGA under Congress ensured no one went to bed hungry, provided economic security and creating rural assets, empowered rural women, reducing rural-urban migration, and promoted social equity, among others.
