Poland blames Germany for failure to impose tougher sanctions on Russia

EuropePoland blames Germany for failure to impose tougher sanctions on Russia

With over 1,417 killed and 2,038 injured, Poland blames Germany for its failure to impose harsher sanctions on Russia.

The situation is rough in Poland being a neighbor of Russia and Ukraine with a raging war that does not seem to be stopping and the Prime Minister of Poland says that Hungary is supportive of the new measures despite Viktor Orban’s friendly attitude towards Russia.

“It’s Germany that is the main roadblock on sanctions,” he said.

As of 2 April 2022, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) recorded 3,455 civilian casualties in the country: 1,417 killed and 2,038 injured.  Ukraine has accused Russia of massacring civilians and leaving bodies strewn on roads. Several explosions were heard in Odesa and Kherson and information suggests that the war will now be concentrated largely in Donetsk.

Bucha civilian deaths are haunting the world where bodies are seen heaped in mass graves, rotting bodies strewn on streets, and the disturbing visuals of a family with two children shot in their car, their bodies still in the car, as Gaurav Sawant, Indian journalist from India Today reported on the ground in Ukraine.

However, strangely, Russia rejects claims of killing civilians in Ukraine and suggested images of corpses were “fakes”.

“We categorically reject all allegations,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told journalists.

The Ukraine government has asked the International Criminal Court to gather evidence of alleged war crimes, while some European governments are pushing for further sanctions on Russia in light of the allegations, which center on the town of Bucha on the outskirts of the Ukrainian capital.

A disturbed Gaurav Sawant, an Indian journalist from India Today reported the scenes from Ukraine, visiting the civilians dwelling around Bucha after the terrible massacre.  One particularly troubling story was about a mother who had lost her child in the Russian shelling.  She buried her child in the ground near her dwelling place and would go to the child’s grave, offering chocolates and tea, feeling her buried child was feeling cold.  Truly heartbreaking stories of people who lost their loved ones.

Gaurav Sawant wrote, “What I found motivating was the blessings I got from this grandmother. She saw so much pain in the past 40 days & yet was showering blessings for happiness & peace. Had very little food but wanted to share it with us, perfect strangers…very moving experience.”

As the Russia-Ukraine war enters its 40th day, there are hopeful reports that the Russian troops retreating. Russian soldiers on Sunday reportedly retreated from Kyiv and Chernihiv and neighboring countries like Poland along with the world are anxiously waiting for the war to stop.
