IndiaAfter Muslims, now Sikhs barred from wearing turbans in some areas

There is sparking outrage as now Sikhs are being stopped from wearing headgear and turbans revealed in a video in Jammu.

Apparently, a student from Heritage School in Jammu was asked not to wear her dupatta to school sparking outrage against the school administrative body.  Apparently, the administration told her that following this, she will carry a kirpan to school!  (Kirpan is a curved, single-edged sword or knife carried by Sikhs).  The furious protestors from Sikh organizations report that where in the world do students carry kirpans to school!

Her upset father met with the administration and told them that they would never allow their daughter to go to school without her customary dupatta which they have always worn and asked them to return the school fees and issue a transfer certificate, ready to take their daughter out of school.

The Sikhs from the Sikh organizations in Jammu state that it is a deliberate attempt on the part of the government to humiliate the children and segregate them. The irate Sikh organization head, on speaking to the press vowed that the Sikhs will not allow the children to be insulted this way and they are willing to give their lives for this cause.

Salman Nizami, a Congress politician tweets, “After Muslims, now Sikhs not allowed to wear turbans, dupattas; Video from Jammu. BJP has emboldened this fringe behavior in India. Minorities are made to feel like second-class citizens. Stop tearing the beautiful fabric of India’s diversity!”

A netizen tweeted, “No one has raised these religious matters before in schools but now from were due to which pressure of law and order they are not allowing Sikh to wear turban and dupatta. Same they are doing with Muslims too!  Everyone must have the right to follow their religious activities at school.”

The debate over the religious right to wear a hijab (headscarf) in school and colleges while attending classes is now headed to the Supreme Court.

Perhaps, the administration wants to see how far they can go and they are testing the waters.  It all depends on the people’s reactions and actions to the new laws being inflicted on them. These new issues raised suddenly are swiftly polarizing and fragmenting India to greater degrees in alarming proportions.
