A senior Indian diplomat said that the neighboring countries are helping in the evacuation of stranded students and they are facing difficulties due to traffic jams and long queues on the Ukrainian side of the border.
India’s Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla who was present at the high-level meeting chaired by PM Narendra Modi informed on Tuesday that the session began with an expression of profound sadness over Indian student, Naveen Shekharappa’s death who lost his life in Russian shelling in Ukraine’s Kharkiv on Tuesday morning.
Shringla further informed that there are no Indian nationals left in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, which is currently under attack by Russian troops. The Foreign Secretary also disclosed that a special team of officers has been sent to Belgorod (in Russia) which is close to Kharkiv, to extract Indian citizens from the conflict zone, specifying that evacuation from Kharkiv is the current priority.
Meanwhile, Ukraine on Wednesday asked the anxious mothers of Russian troops captured on the battlefield to come and collect their sons, in an apparent attempt to embarrass Moscow, reports news agency AFP. “A decision has been taken to hand over captured Russian troops to their mothers if they come to collect them in Ukraine, in Kyiv,” the defense ministry said in a statement.
Presently, another Indian student lost his life in Ukraine raising anger towards the Indian government for waiting so long before working towards evacuating the students.
