Cong turns down Sidhu’s resignation for losing Punjab to AAP

Share

After AAP won, Navjot  Sidhu wrote on Twitter, “The voice of the people is the voice of God …. Humbly accept the mandate of the people of Punjab …. Congratulations to Aap !!!

In a stunning blow to Congress, the Aam Aadmi Party shot up, on its road to becoming a national party and AAP candidates are rising over major heavyweights like Charanjit Singh Channi, Navjot Singh Sidhu, Parkash Singh Badal, and Sukhbir Badal. Ex-CM Amarinder Singh has lost from Patiala.

Bhagwant Mann will be the next Punjab CM with the Aam Aadmi Party sweeping the 117-seat Punjab Assembly with leads in close to 90 seats. The ruling Congress has managed to take the second position, and the Shiromani Akali Dal is in the third spot.

The sitting Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi is trailing in Chamkaur Sahib and Bhadaur, while his predecessor Amarinder Singh has suffered a huge defeat in home turf Patiala. Navjot Singh Sidhu is trailing in Amritsar East but ahead of arch-rival Bikram Majithia. Akali Dal patriarch Parkash Singh Badal is trailing from Lambi and his son and former deputy Punjab chief minister Sukhbir Badal is leading in Jalalabad.

The BJP alliance with Captain Amarinder Singh-led Punjab Lok Congress and Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa’s Shiromani Akali Dal (Sanyukt) is leading on four seats.

Exit polls 2022 have predicted a win for AAP Chief Minister candidate Bhagwant Mann and celebrations are already being prepped up at Mann’s residence with a stage being set and jalebis being served up. Both Mann and incumbent Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi offered prayers at gurdwaras before the counting kicked off.

The bulk of the Punjab exit polls results has been unanimous in predicting a clean sweep for the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party with 75-90 seats in the 117-seat Punjab Assembly, where the halfway mark is 59. A handful projected a hung Assembly in Punjab, the lone poll-bound state where the Congress is in power, with an edge for the AAP. If the AAP does win, the Punjab Election 2022 percentage share of parties will be interesting to watch.

The Assembly elections 2022 in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Uttarakhand, and Manipur are being as the half-time preview of Lok Sabha elections 2024. The Punjab election result day is the same as that for the other states, this is March 10, 2022.

The Aam Aadmi Party has promised the Delhi model of development in elections in Punjab with a weighty focus on health, education, water, electricity, and outreach towards women with a monthly allowance for all above the age of 18. The party has also promised to create employment and provide an unemployment allowance for youth.

The Punjab Election 2022 seats are completely different from the last Punjab election in which the Congress had won an absolute majority by winning 77 seats in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, ousting the SAD-BJP government after 10 years. The AAP had emerged as the second-largest party, winning 20 seats. The Shiromani Akali Dal won 15 seats, while the BJP, which had a coalition government with the Akali Dal in Punjab from 2007 to 2017, secured three seats.

The election results would result in a lot of soul-searching for Congress, what went wrong?
