The death of Indian democracy that Indians seem to be accepting

IndiaThe death of Indian democracy that Indians seem to be accepting

A series of constant events reveals that democracy is dying, even without ratings from international outlets, we have to admit its veracity.

Many people in India keep on ranting democracy is dying, relinquish their will, and fate, and walk into walled silence.  Uttering painfully “democracy is dying” every once in a while, yet doing nothing much about it is asking for it.

It seems Indians have resigned to their fate. Due to the recent massive election win of the BJP in four states, most Indians have deduced that the country has spoken and the nation has voted for Hindutva.  Thus, the Opposition is like a dying whisper, unfortunately. Ranks are still not organized and many are resigning, so it seems.

Despondency hangs in the air. with many people wailing that darkness is all over the land.  The happy people seem to be perhaps 10% extremists but they give the illusion that they are the country.  Why are they winning elections then? Perhaps if a single-day election is held all over the nation and nearly everyone votes, BJP may win 30% of the votes and another party will rise to power.  The BJP united with the NDA to strengthen itself.

Are really all the people voting for BJP? There are millions of angry Indian youth sitting jobless.  However, the cow vigilantes feel a new purpose with their new jobs, but for how long?  There are journalists who live in fear walking on eggshells, and while many are bold, they still know the price they are paying for reporting the truth, farmers seemed to have voted for BJP, but that is a presumption, perhaps they did not.  There are bankers without jobs and trade unions unhappy, Muslims, Dalits, Christians do not feel safe under the present BJP. Did all these people vote for the BJP?

Here are why I say democracy is dying

Firstly, central agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate, CBI, Central Vigilance Commission (CVC), and the Income Tax Department are being used to “target, harass and corner political opponents across the country for vendetta.  All this is to weaken the Opposition parties. Without a strong Opposition party, democracy will die.

Lynching and killing of Muslims are becoming commonplace.  No one even raises an eyebrow when it occurs anymore.

Another Muslim man was lynched today in Tripura, India by a Hindu right-wing mob – killing Muslims in the name of cows continues!

Christians are under tremendous attack over the last few years and the frequency is rising. Churches are attacked and Christians are beaten up with violent attempts to subdue, frighten and even kill Christians. Reports are not taken in and the slayings are not inferred to religion.  Recently, again, there was immense pressure by the leaders of right-wing groups on Christians to reconvert to Hinduism. When Christians in the village refused to recant their faith, the mob attacked the Sunday gathering and disrupted the worship service.

Somehow to degrade a woman seems acceptable if she is a Muslim and the Delhi Court on Monday granted bail to Aumkareshwar Thakur, who was accused of creating the ‘Sulli Deals’ app on GitHub, stating that he is a first-time offender and that prolonged incarceration would be detrimental to his overall well being.

On the other hand, Umar Khalid is still languishing in jail due to WhatsApp forwards, with no evidence of any crime he committed, nor did he incite violence.  In fact, he said, ““We won’t respond to violence with violence. Won’t respond to hate with hate. If they spread hate, we will respond to it with love. If they thrash us with lathis, we keep holding the tricolor.”

Rana Ayyub is an Indian investigative journalist and opinion columnist with The Washington Post, author of the investigative book Gujarat Files and she is one of the most trolled journalists by the right-wing trolls of Modi.  It is said that Rana’s investigation of the Sohrabuddin case got Amit Shah was arrested on 25 July 2010 in connection with the case.  Her open criticism of the government and the investigative nature of her work keeps her life is constantly under threat.

Once again, democracy chewed on freedom when Rana Ayyub was stopped at the Indian immigration while she was about to board her flight to London to deliver her speech on the intimidation of journalists with ICFJ and to travel to Italy right after to deliver the keynote address at the Journalism Fest on Indian democracy

Nicholas Dawes, Executive Director at TheCity NY expressed, “This is unconscionable. And it will ultimately fail in its purpose.  Rana Ayyub’s message can’t be stopped at the border, and her warnings about press freedom in India will if anything be amplified by the effort to bar her person.

Wishing goodwill to Pakistan on her WhatsApp status on their Republic Day got an Indian girl arrested in Karnataka!

To heighten the melancholic mood in Karnataka, Muslim traders are banned from selling their goods near the vicinity of any Hindu temples, which led the Princess in Saudi to retort in indignation:

No of Hindus living in some Muslim nations

1.Indonesia- 4,480,000
2.Malaysia- 2,040,000
3.UAE- 910,000
4.Qatar-360,000
5.Bahrain-240,000
6.Kuwait-630,000
7.Oman-650,000
8.Saudi -370,000

None of these nations have ever prevented Hindus from doing business near mosques

Shockingly, a doctor tells a crowd in Uttar Pradesh after watching Kashmir Files.

“Every Hindu child should have a pen in one hand, and a weapon in the other, to kill Muslims.

The icing on the cake moment came with surging redemption came when a group of senior journalists from all over India issues a collective appeal to constitutional institutions to step in and discharge their mandate in wake of “attacks” on India’s religious minorities, especially Muslims

But once again, the eerie chain of events keeps surging in frightening frequency and intensity.  Yet there is a chilled stillness among the large mobs of people and politicians, who pick up feelers from the crowds and will not act unless they sense what the crowd wants, so the silent majority is empowering and enabling the death of Indian democracy.
