A bomb hit the Drama Theatre in Mariupol on Wednesday, where hundreds of civilians were taking shelter and rescue operations underway.

According to local authorities, the shelter withstood the attack and people are being rescued. Following Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s address to Congress, US President Biden announced the US will provide Ukraine with an additional $800 million in assistance, bringing the total assistance to $1 billion this week. Biden also outlined the specific equipment the US plans to send to Ukraine.

Officials in Mayor’s office in #Mariupol say the bomb shelter under the theatre — where 1,000+ civilians were taking refuge and withstood Russia’s aerial attack.  People were rescued but they still do not know how many casualties there are.

– Russia continued its attacks on Ukrainian cities including Kyiv, Mykolaiv, and Mariupol on Wednesday

– In a video address on Wednesday, Zelenskyy said that the positions of Ukraine and Russia at peace talks were becoming “more realistic”.

– The UN Security Council is set to hold an emergency meeting on Thursday to discuss the war in Ukraine following requests from several countries including the US and UK.
