IndiaRahul Gandhi meets Congress Bhupinder Hooda, discuss revamping party

After the G-23 meeting, Rahul Gandhi meets Congress veteran Bhupinder Singh Hooda and they discussed revamping the party.

A day after the critical meeting of G-23 leaders, Rahul Gandhi Congress leader reaches out to G-23 leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda in Delhi the day after the “rebels'” dinner.

Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Thursday met Bhupinder Singh Hooda and is reported to have discussed rebuilding the Congress party and the path forward following its loss in five Assembly elections.

After his 45-minute meeting with Rahul Gandhi, Hooda left for Ghulam Nabi Azad’s residence, where another G-23 leader, Anand Sharma, was also present.  Hooda and Azad were said to have discussed concrete suggestions to bolster the Congress and ensure collective leadership and decision making as demanded by the grouping which met on Wednesday and signed a joint statement.

Rahul Gandhi’s meeting with Hooda is significant in the context of the G23 statement and the telephonic conversation Azad had with Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday to convey the intentions of the meeting at his residence.

G-23 is a group of dissenting Congress leaders who have demanded organizational overhaul.  After the meeting, Hooda, the former chief minister of Haryana, visited Ghulam Nabi Azad, a part of the G-23, at the latter’s residence.

The rebel leaders, who have been demanding structural and organizational amendments in the Congress, have not shared any details about last night’s meeting but said that talks have begun between them and the Gandhis.

“We wouldn’t comment on record since internal discussions are underway,” a senior G-23 member told India Today TV, adding, “Our official stand is the statement that was issued on March 16 after the dinner.”
