Karnataka Hijab Row Live Updates: Classes 9, 10 are to reopen from Monday with a decision on seniors and colleges later.
The three-judge bench of the Karnataka high court has begun hearing the petitions questioning the ban on wearing of ‘hijabs’ (headscarves) by students in colleges.
In the second stage, we will decide about reopening classes 11th-12th and other degree colleges as per the situation: Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai (ANI)
Following the high court’s interim order demanding students not to wear hijab or saffron shawls in educational institutions till it gives a final verdict on the hijab controversy, the state government on Thursday announced the opening of high schools on Monday. However, the PU and degree colleges will remain shut till the next order from the government.
“The last two days have been very peaceful. Today a 3-member bench (of high court) has, while adjourning the matter for Monday, appealed to all the schools to reopen but no religious dress codes should be followed by both sides,” Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai said.
