Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Thursday spoke to Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi over the phone regarding the alleged security breach.
Sonia Gandhi spoke to the Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi on the issue pertaining to the security lapse of Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking more information in regard to the matter.
The Congress president told Channi that the Prime Minister belongs to the entire country and there should be no laxity in his security. As per sources, Ms. Gandhi reminded Channi that Narendra Modi is the Prime Minister of the entire country. Whoever is responsible for the security lapse, action should be taken against them and no laxity should be taken in this whole matter, she added.
Considering the gravity of the situation and the Congress chief’s rigorous stand on it, CM Channi has constituted a high-level committee to look into the matter and asked the committee to submit its report in three days. Ms. Gandhi is understood to have spoken to Channi over the phone in view of the Central government’s strong stand on the lapse in the Prime Minister’s security. It is being alleged that Channi did not take the incident seriously yesterday.
Congress Spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala dismissed the incident on a lighter note, saying that the rally did not attract crowds, so PM Modi returned and made an excuse of a security lapse. Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera also held a press conference, in the same manner, today, but by the end of the evening, noting the seriousness of the incident, the Congress President spoke to the Punjab Chief Minister on the phone and took stock of the entire incident as per sources.
