Mohammad Shaukat, a 17-year-old boy was lynched by locals in Delhi’s Uttam Nagar area on Sunday. Three juveniles have been arrested so far.

Mohammad Shaukat was brutally killed, three youth were arrested while attempts are underway to nab others.

The victim, Mohammad Shaukat had shared a reel on Instagram, in which a local criminal named Sohan Lal Kashyap was shown on the reel. According to his family members, the Sohan Lal Kashyap was outraged over the same, gathered a mob, and together, they killed Mohammad Shaukat.

Additional DCP (Dwarka district) Vikram Singh was quoted by The Indian Express as saying, “We lodged an FIR, and conducted the victim’s post-mortem examination on Monday. Initial investigation has revealed that he had posted a video on social media and had some heated arguments with the locals. On Sunday, he was picked up by them and they killed him. One of the accused is a local criminal of the area and a proposal for his externment is pending. We are looking for him.”

Nargis, Shaukat’s sister said her brother was found in an unconscious state near a school in the Uttam Nagar area.  She was quoted by Maktoob Media as saying, “My brother worked at a factory and was on leave on Sunday. He went out of the house Sunday evening and did not return. Late in the night, we received a call that Shoukat had been found in an unconscious condition near a school in the Uttam Nagar area. When we reached the spot, Shaukat was alive. He was breathing. Policemen who were at the spot scolded us when we requested them to take my brother to the hospital. It was only after pleading several times, police officers took him to the hospital. He was taken to Mahendru Hospital and then was shifted to DDU hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.”

It is a sensitive time in India with Pinky Chaudhary calling for the extermination of Muslims and Christians from the world and earlier, political activists in saffron robes in the holy city of Haridwar asked for the slaughter of 20 million Muslims, and then the Sulli Deals which outraged Muslim women’s modesty. In all this, when once again a Muslim boy is killed so easily, it has raised a heavy trend on Twitter asking for justice for Mohammad Shaukat with a sense of unsettlement among Muslims and they write, “We demand justice, we want a law against mob lynching.”  While three youth are arrested, mob lynching is increasing. There was a time when one did not even know what the word meant! Can one even imagine the terror that minority communities are going through at this time?
