Priyanka Gandhi said, “We have sent a delegation to Kasganj. After looking at the report and the situation, we will comment on this further.”
The deceased youth was identified as Altaf, son of Chand Mian, a resident of Nagla Sayyed Ahroli of the Sadar Kotwali area. The youth was kept in the lockup of Sadar Kotwali of Kasganj in Uttar Pradesh and was found dead under suspicious circumstances on Tuesday, November 9. He was accused of eloping with a girl and had been detained for interrogation. The police have called his death a suicide. The family of the youth, however, is alleging murder.
The incident was reported from Ahrauli Village in Kasganj, where police had taken the youth named Altaf into custody from his house at 8 pm on November 8, for interrogation in relation to a missing girl.
As per information, almost 22 hours later, on November 9 at around 6 pm, the family of Altaf received information that their son had died in the police lockup.
Altaf’s father said: “I handed over my son to the police on Monday evening. Barely 24 hours later, I was informed that he had hanged himself.”
During the investigation, five police personnel, including Kotwali in-charge Virendra Indolia, Senior Sub Inspector Chandresh Gautam, Nadrai Gate Outpost Incharge Vikas Kumar, cop Ghanendra Singh, constable Saurabh Solanki have were suspended.
Rohan Pramod Botre, SSP Kasganj speaking on the matter, had said the youth was brought for questioning on the charge of kidnapping a girl. He said the youth asked to go to the bathroom after which he allegedly died by suicide. He added that the matter was being investigated.
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi has reached Lucknow today. Priyanka Gandhi commented on the suspicious death of the youth who died in the custody of Sadar Kotwali of Kasganj.
Priyanka said, “We have sent a delegation to Kasganj. After looking at the report and the situation, we will comment on this further.” She visited the family and sources say she will be giving them 30 lacs and ensuring them of all help possible.

Priyanka Gandhi met Arun Valmikis family who died in police custody, assured them financial help of 30 lacs.
Akhilesh Yadav met Manish Gupta’s family & demanded judicial probe.
But I can say no one will meet Altaf’s Family or extend help for reasons well known.

#Kasganj Police's nonsense argument on Altaf's death? Was Altaf 2 feet tall, was the tap water 8 feet high and someone could hang it with a bow? Asaduddin Owaisi Demanded Arrest of Police:
All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi has alleged that this was not a case of suicide but murder and the police official should be arrested.
Owaisi said “Tell me one thing, can anyone die by suicide by using a water tap at a height of less than 4 feet with his clothes? How can anyone kill oneself like this? You can kill him, you can strangle him. If he dies in police custody then they should not be suspended but arrested.”
Samajwadi Party Demanded A Judicial Probe for Altaf’s Death:
Meanwhile, the opposition Samajwadi Party has also demanded a judicial probe into the matter.
Mayawati Seeks Probe into Custodial Death:
BSP president Mayawati on Thursday sought a high-level inquiry into the “shameful” death of a youth in police custody in Kasganj district and slammed the Uttar Pradesh government for its alleged failure to prevent custodial deaths.
In a tweet, the BSP president said, “Death of another youth in police custody in Kasganj is very sad and shameful. The government should give strict punishment to the culprits by conducting a high-level inquiry into the incident and also help the victim’s family.”
“It is a matter of great concern that the Uttar Pradesh government is proving to be a failure in preventing deaths in custody,” she said.
There is an angry movement going on against the mysterious circumstances in which Altaf died. The police say he committed suicide by hanging himself from the bathroom tap using the drawstrings of his jacket hood; however, the tap was only two feet high, obviously not high enough to hang from nor the drawstrings of his jacket hood strong enough to take his weight! Given the present riots and attacks on Muslims, no one is buying the story that Altaf took his life, and Twitter is trending heavily with #JusticeForAltaf
