Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the much-awaited Purvanchal Expressway at Karwal Kheri Village in Uttar Pradesh.
He landed in a C-130J Super Hercules IAF plane here in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday and inaugurated the Purvanchal Expressway at Karwal Kheri Village.
The inauguration program was held near the 3.5-km long airstrip made on the expressway that will witness the landing of fighter jets like Rafale, Sukhoi, Mirage.
Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath along with other dignitaries were present at the function. The 341-km long expressway from Lucknow to Ghazipur will connect Delhi with Bihar by Yamuna expressway and Agra-Lucknow expressway.
The Bihar border is only 20 km away from the Purvanchal expressway where it ends in Ghazipur. The new six-lane expressway will begin from Chand Sarai village in Lucknow. It was built at a cost of around Rs 23,000 crore, including Rs 1,719 crore given as compensation for the acquisition of 1,349 hectares of land from the farmers.
Earlier, the Prime Minister in July 2018 had laid the foundation stone of the Purvanchal Expressway and it was completed in record time. The expressway also has a 3.5-km long airstrip where fighters and other aircraft can land during emergencies.
Purvanchal Expressway will pass through Lucknow, Barabanki, Amethi, Ayodhya, Sultanpur, Ambedkar Nagar, Azamgarh, Mau, and Ghazipur districts.
