A top Jaish-e-Mohammad commander Sofi was killed in Tral Srinagar on October 13 in South Kashmir’s Awantipora.
The incident occurred during an encounter with Jaish-e-Mohammad militant and security forces on Wednesday, police said.
The gunfight broke out in Tilwani Mohalla of Tral region when a team of joint forces launched a cordon and search operation following information about militant presence.
“One terrorist has been killed so far. The operation is underway,” a police officer said. Kashmir’s Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar identified the slain terrorist as top Jaish e Mohammad commander Sham Sofi.
The gunfight at Tral broke a day after five militants were killed in two separate gunfights in South Kashmir’s Shopian district.
