Partition’s pains can never be forgotten. Millions of our sisters and brothers were displaced and many lost their lives due to mindless hate and violence. In memory of the struggles and sacrifices of our people, 14th August will be observed as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day.

This annoucment comes a day before India’s celebrates its 75th Independence Day.
Pakistan celebrates its Independence Day on August 14.
“Partition’s pains can never be forgotten. Millions of our sisters and brothers were displaced and many lost their lives due to mindless hate and violence. In memory of the struggles and sacrifices of our people, 14th August will be observed as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day,” tweeted PM Modi.
He sent out a second tweet where he said, “May the #PartitionHorrorsRemembranceDay keep reminding us of the need to remove the poison of social divisions, disharmony and further strengthen the spirit of oneness, social harmony and human empowerment.”
While it is important to remember the horrors of paritition, the parodox of this is the day of mourning is set at the eve of Independence Day, which is the day of great celebration, so can India really mourn and rejoice at the same time.
