The recent up-trend of vaccines in states is remarkable, but Nature reports China had vaccinated 2 crores people a day for more than a week.
The Narendra Modi government has maintained the record number of COVID-19 vaccinations on Monday is a result of the Centre taking back management of vaccine acquisition from the states.
Revealed data, however, tells that the record of 86 lakh vaccinations was enabled by slowing down vaccinations in Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled states in the run-up to Monday.
Health Minister Harsh Vardhan tweeted that 86 lakh vaccinations were the “highest ever single day coverage” across the world. Nevertheless, earlier on June 9, Nature reported that China had vaccinated two crore people a day for over a week on their intense vaccine drive.
28.87 crore vaccine doses were distributed so far under Nationwide Vaccination Drive vaccinated.
On June 20, of note, Andhra Pradesh under Chief Minister Jagan Reddy of the YSR Congress Party hit a new record by administering over 6 lakh vaccines in a day! Now, this recent record has reached a milestone by administering over 13 lakh doses of COVID-19 vaccines till 8 pm today. A total of 13,45,004 vaccine doses were administered to people across the state in this intense vaccine drive that ended at 9 pm. Thus, they crossed the one-crore mark in vaccinating people with the first dose.
Rajasthan under Ashok Gehlot, of INC Congress, was on a massive vaccination drive but had to be halted due to a shortage of vaccines. There is a tied knot between the Center and State governments and it is apparent that the Center needs to coordinate better with State governments to ensure they receive the maximum amount of vaccines, escaping red-tapism and politics.
