DRDO’s powerful anti-coronavirus drug 2-Deoxy-D-Glucose cleared for emergency use by DCGI. can help save lakhs of lives in the midst of the frightening second wave and now emerging third wave about to strike.

The DCGI has approved the emergency use of an anti-coronavirus drug developed by a laboratory of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), work started last year.  along with the Hyderabad-based Dr. Reddy’s Laboratorie.  The anti-coronavirus therapeutic drug 2-Deoxy-D-Glucose, also called 2-DG.

2-Deoxy-D-Glucose comes in a powder form in a sachet and can be consumed orally by dissolving it in water, used for moderate to severe patients, and speeds up the faster recovery rates of patients, according to reports.

The results of clinical trials for the drug show that a molecule present in it helps in faster recovery of hospitalized coronavirus patients and also reduces their dependence on supplemental oxygen.

It accumulates in the infected cells and stops the fatal virus from multiplying.  During tests, a
a high percentage of patients treated with the drug tested negative for coronavirus in RT-PCR tests.

Scientists at INMAS-DRDO had started experimenting with this drug early last year.
In the second round of trials, conducted on 110 patients, the drug was found to be safe for use in COVID-19 patients and showed remarkable improvement in their recovery process.

Thereafter, phase three trials were conducted on 220 patients from last December to March 2021 at 27 coronavirus hospitals in several states.

India is facing an unusual unexpected very violent second wave of the coronavirus pandemic, reporting lakhs of infections and thousands of deaths for the past few weeks.

India has faced enormous challenges due to acute shortages of necessary medical equipment such as medical oxygen, hospital beds, ventilators, and drugs.  Nations all over the globe have rushed to help India over the last few weeks due to the COVID typhoon sweeping through India supplying medicine and oxygen.

India also reported over four lakh new cases for a week with over 4,000 deaths per day, an unprecedented high.

While the second wave is raging, experts have already warned of a possible third wave very soon which will affect children, which will be a new phenomenon, and presently, children are on ventilators and some have even died.

The new drug 2-Deoxy-D-Glucose will be out in a month and everyone In India who is aware of this drug is waiting eagerly for it.
