New Delhi: Top Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday urged the center to take care of the migrant workers forced to return home due to the lockdown, saying that they should not face financial difficulties, so the center should immediately deposit six thousand rupees in their bank accounts.
Mr. Gandhi tweeted, “Migrant workers are migrating once again. In such a situation, it becomes the responsibility of the central government to add money to their bank accounts. But will the government, which blames the public for spreading corona take such a helpful step? ”
Congress Communications Department Chief Randeep Singh Surjewala mentioned that the central government does not listen to the leaders of the opposition and makes fun of their suggestions.
He said that in February last year, when Mr. Gandhi warned about the COVID-19 pandemic, the government first made fun of him refusing to withdraw Namaste Trump event, and forcibly demolished the Congress government in Madhya Pradesh during that time through their election campaigns. The center then suddenly imposed the fatal lockdown without informing anyone.
He stated that Congress once again warned the government of the implications of a lockdown without prior preparation for the poor laborers. The central government did not pay heed to their suggestions and as a result, the country witnessed the greatest humanitarian tragedy since Independence.
When the Congress deposited railway fares for the migrant laborers and arranged the buses, initially the central government leaders poked fun at the venture, and then later, railway travel was arranged for the migrants at some locations.
The spokesperson alleged that in the last year, the overall public citizens were looted in the name of COVID-19 tax but neither the hospital, nor the doctors benefited, nor ventilators supplied, nor the vaccine nor the medicines provided nor the amount of Rs 6,000 was ever deposited into their accounts.
