The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) is hosting *Chhatra Adhikar March* in front of Parliament in New Delhi. Students all across India joining together to participate in this movement. They are also raising their voices against many scams involved in various exams, where even money is collected promising jobs, but nothing is delivered.
Lakhs of students have appeared for the UPSC exams, and other entrance examinations, but are now sitting duck without jobs, and as the students say, “The sacrifice of our parents and our hard work has no value in the government’s eyes.” The estimated youth unemployment rate in India is at an all-time high at 23.75 percent.
There have been inactive placement cells while many governmental posts remain vacant. The NTPC exam was delayed for one and a half years with no clarity on final exams or joining dates. Medical exams are pending for several years.
There were no notifications of Uttarakhand JE AE vacancies. Delhi Police vacancy got canceled after collecting money around 7 crores from students.
The recent Jammu and Kashmir JKSSB class IV examinations papers were an eyewash because the papers were set at a standard of a PhD level. It appeared that the government was not serious about hiring anyone, but the exams were simply a fiasco to show the government was offering jobs, but really had no intention of hiring.
In Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, there are recruitment frauds with most posts remaining vacant.
Graduates and postgraduates are applying for peons’ post and even with that, many are not still not getting work.
The unemployment rate in the country is increasing every day, and many students who completed their education on loans are unable to pay back because there is a dearth of jobs.
The students are running a hashtag #StudentsWantJobs and tweeted “91 years ago on this day #MahatmaGandhi ji started #DandiMarch against British Raj & today, youth of this nation is starting #ChhatraAdhikarMarch against the tyrannical govt of @BJP4India.”
While students are demanding jobs and their rights, the government remains tight-lipped about addressing their concerns.
The country’s unemployment rate – 6.1% – is the highest it has been since 1972-73, or some records say, since 45 years, the earliest year for which comparable data is available. This is according to the latest employment survey, which was leaked to The Business Standard newspaper after the government refused to release it.
The National Students’ Union of India, the student wing of the Indian National Congress, was established on 9 April 1971. The organization was founded by Indira Gandhi after merging the Kerala Students Union and the West Bengal State Chhatra Parishad to form a national students’ organization.
