Even though BJP does not have a single elected single BJP MLA in the union territory of Puducherry and Congress in majority falling short of just one, BJP warfare brings down the Congress govt!
Puducherry is a fascinating small city of 19.54 km. It is a union territory of India formed out of four territories of former French colonized India, namely Pondichéry, Karikal, Mahé and Yanaon, excluding Chandannagar named after the largest district, Puducherry. This French colony was handed over by the French in 1954, ingrained with the Tamil culture and language. In this unique state, it needs one Malyali MLA and one Telugu-speaking MLA.
On the stunning defeat of the Congress party, despite being in a majority without BJP having a single elected MLA in Puducherry, the Congress former Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy hit out at the BJP after losing Puducherry on the floor test, saying, “The speaker should have put the motion in to vote, but he did not do that. He himself made the ruling saying that the ruling government has lost its majority. It is absolutely incorrect under the procedure. It is a murder of democracy, it is not found anywhere else in the country and the people of Puducherry and the people of this country will teach them a lesson.”
It is, however, not entirely surprising that this happened. On observing the checkmate chess games and psychological warfare strategies of the BJP, it is evident they are determined to win every state of India by vile, whim, charm money, deceit, and trickery. They infiltrate territories, encamp in locations months before elections, wield their way into the lives of the prospective voters and bewitch MLAs and work on them with mind games. The BJP is entirely hostile to the Congress and openly slogans Congress Mukt Bharat, working on every scheme to bring the Congress party down. This is a strange and unnatural, unhealthy trend in politics. Usually, parties fall and rise and they give each other that space. Political parties never call for the demise of another, especially Congress representing the democratic ideology of the world.
In the past seven years, it is observed that BJP brought down nine state governments including Kashmir, Manipur, Bihar, Karnataka, Arunachal, MP, Uttarakhand, Puducherry, Sikkim, where a group of regional leaders joined BJP. In most of these states, Congress was in power, in the others, regional governments.
In Manipur, Congress won 28 seats, and was short of 3 to reach a majority; BJP won 21, was 10 short of a majority. The governor, Najma Heptulla, instead of inviting Congress as the single largest party to form the government, favored BJP and invited them to form the government even though they were far from the majority mark.
Once again, in Arunachal, Congress had a powerful stronghold in the state and in November 2015, Congress had 42 seats. However, in a curious turn of events, in Nov 2015, 21 members of the Congress Legislative Party refused to attend the meeting of the party stating that they had lost confidence in the CM, Nabam Tuki. Jyoti Prasad Rajkhowa, the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh decided to prepone elections to December 14, 2015, which did not happen. On Dec 16, 2015, 20 rebel Congress MLAs and 11 BJP MLAs along with 2 independents joined with the deputy speaker who held an assembly session in a guesthouse outside the assembly hall. They had plans to impeach the speaker and indicated that they had no confidence in the Congress government. The high court ruled in favor of the pro-BJP crowd, and while the Supreme Court intervened and restored the Congress Nabam Tuki government, something strange happened. Congress Pema Khandu along with 32 Congress MLAs joined BJP!
The same game plan with different strategies happened in Bihar where Nitish Kumar with Congress suddenly joined BJP.
In Madhya Pradesh 2018, Congress won 114, BJP won 109, others 5, BSP 2. Congress was able to get a majority through independents; and while BJP was 10 seats behind, the BJP delayed the lockdown of COVID, ensuring that Congress Chief Minister Kamal Nath could not put that as an excuse to hold an assembly session. It was only after they brought down Kamal Nath’s government through defections did they announce the lockdown.
Today, Congress former CM Narayanasamy accuses the speaker of not putting motion into a vote and murdered democracy as earlier mentioned.
Haryana Congress leader Bhupinder Hooda said, “We will bring a no-trust motion against the govt as it has lost the trust of people and MLAs. Two Independent MLAs who were supporting the govt have withdrawn their support. Some MLAs of their alliance party said this is the most corrupt govt.”
In Puducherry, BJP found its checkmate in the 3 nominated MLAs to topple the Congress government. In 1963, Lal Bahadur Shashtri, then home minister passed the Union Territories Act. This allowed the Central government to nominate all the MLAs in the assembly. The members objected to that amount saying too much, so since then, the Central government drew it down to nominate only 3 MLA. Today, the BJP used those 3 MLA, nominated by them to vote against Congress even though they were in a majority.
Somehow, today, it does not seem strange to anyone that a government in a majority has lost its state through an outdated law, which should have been modified years ago.
The system is sick. This system should never be accepted as normal. Politicians could have the right to change sides, but this should never be done at the time of elections. This is the worst treachery because they are cheating on the people’s votes. Politicians are forgetting that people voted for them on what party they represent, symbolic of what they hope to achieve. Jumping over to different sides is deceitful.
Also, by law, horse-trading should have grave consequences and MPs should be disqualified especially if they switch sides during elections. It only happens in India, we say. Where in the world do politicians switch parties at election time? The lowest scum gets embroiled in the dirt of deceit with the same DNA as treacherous traitors. The same kind can be bought by any country for money or favors, and shell out secrets for gain. It is time lawmakers chalked out new laws to disqualify such politicians. They are letting out a stench to a younger generation to follow their footsteps in the deep woods to a nexus of corruption, which can never take a nation forward. No, not in dirty politics.
