BJP youth wing leader Pamela Goswami, suspected drug dealer arrested with 100 gm of cocaine in Kolkata

IndiaBJP youth wing leader Pamela Goswami, suspected drug dealer arrested with 100 gm of cocaine in Kolkata

BJP youth wing leader, state secretary of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) Pamela Goswami was arrested with 100 gm of cocaine from South Kolkata’s New Alipore area on Friday, February 19.

Pamela Goswami was a model before joining politics, and also an air hostess and a Bengali television actress.  She is a social worker and politician, BJP youth leader, and Goswami joined the party in 2019.  She was enlisted in the BJP party at a press conference held by state BJP president Dilip Ghosh soon after Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee’s July 21 meeting in 2019.

On Friday, February 19, Pamela Goswami was traveling in her car with a friend, Prabir Kumar Dey, in her car when the police stopped the car.  Sources report that Pamela Goswami would often stop at a certain spot, which the police had noted earlier.  They also had a tip-off that she was carrying cocaine in her car.

After stopping her car, the police searched her bag, found 100 grams of cocaine in her bag as well as on the car seat.   The cops took Pamela Goswami and her friend Prabir Kumar Dey to Kolkata Police headquarters in Lalbazar from New Alipore Police station for further interrogations.

While being taken to the police station, Pamela Goswami shouted from the police vehicle, “I have been falsely accused!”

An officer said, “She was involved in drug trafficking for quite some time. Today, we got information that she along with her supplier Prabir was reaching the spot to hand over the drugs to the purchasers.”

At the time of the arrest, a team of policemen in eight vehicles surrounded her car and made the arrests.”  The officer added, “An investigation into the matter is underway. We are trying to find out whether she is involved in any drug racket.”

BJP MP Locket Chatterjee said, “We had earlier seen that the state police had named several BJP activists in arms cases. I do not have much information about this incident that is why I will not be able to say more. Pamela is a young girl. If she has done anything wrong, the law will take its course,”

State BJP spokesperson Samik Bhattacharya commented, “I do not know whether this is planted. The model code of conduct is yet to come into effect and the police are still under the state government. So, anything can be possible. We need to see whether the packets were planted inside her vehicle and her bag. I am not sure.”

State minister and senior Trinamool Congress leader Chandrima Bhattacharya criticized the BJP and said, “Earlier, we saw the involvement of several BJP leaders in child trafficking, and now drug trafficking. Every time they cannot cry conspiracy. It’s a shame that their (BJP’s) women leaders are involved in such illegal activities,” she said.

Goswami was very vocal about anti-nationals as is the case with many of the BJP workers and in one of her tweets to Rihanna the American pop singer, she stated, “Restrain speaking from the internal issues within the territory of India without sufficient information and knowledge! The “Real Farmers” are ashamed of such terrorist, the middleman who deprived farmers all this while! Their violent agitations are on with terror funds in support of Congress.”

There is a wave of anger from citizens over the nation because youth social-environmental activist, Disha Ravi was arrested for a toolkit, which did not propagate violence and Disha is being called an anti-national while Pamela Goswami, a cocaine drug dealer, a leader in the BJP party who has even accused farmers of being antinational is called a nationalist!

Perhaps, political leaders such as the BJP should not use the word “anti-national” so lightly for any citizen who may beg to disagree with the central government. The reason is if when a real threat unveils itself, no one will believe it anymore. It is like the story of the boy crying wolf!
