AIMIM’s President Asaduddin Owaisi Stirs Up Civic Polls Toofan to Gujarat

PoliticsAIMIM’s President Asaduddin Owaisi Stirs Up Civic Polls Toofan to Gujarat

For the first time ever, AIMIM will be contesting elections in Gujarat and Barrister-at-Law Asaduddin Owaisi, says, “Hope the people bestow us with love.”

In a bold initiative, AIMIM (All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen in December 2020 announced that it will contest Gujarat civic body polls.  Gujarat, the stronghold of BJP for three decades would be a challenge.  Owaisi announced, “I love challenges!”

The six cities in Gujarat that are going to have civic body elections on February 21 are Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, Vadodara, Jamnagar, and Bhavnagar.

Asaduddin Owaisi, President of AIMIM said, “I’m going to Bharuch from here. I will address a public meeting there in the day. We have an alliance with the Bharatiya Tribal Party here. There will also be a public meeting in Ahmedabad later in the evening.”  Bharatiya Tribal Party (BTP) is a political party based in Gujarat. This party was formed by Chhotubhai Vasava in 2017.

Addressing media in Surat, Owaisi informed that he will be addressing two public meetings-one in Bharuch and one in Ahmadabad on Sunday.

In Bharuch, Gujarat, he received a rousing response from the crowds.

In a stirring speech, he thundered, “I came to Gujarat to raise great leaders.  One day, a great leader will rise to function in the Vidhan Sabha with truth and the walls of Gujarat will always be covered with justice and justice will shake its walls…”      He also said, “Not a single point of my argument is against the Constitution and will not be.” and “Gujarat’s identity is from Gandhi, the tribals here and the art and culture here.”

He punctuated his speeches with witticism and humor.  On a note of sarcasm, he quipped that BJP won Gujarat for three decades because of the Congress and said the difference between Congress and BJP is like 3 g from 4 g.  He reiterated that AIMIM had only entered the political arena in Gujarat now, unlike the other parties, and was confident AIMIM would make positive change.

When asked what the Muslims would get now since the AIMIM might never get to govern in Gujarat, he said, “We will take up the issues of the minorities, tribals and backwards.”  The Barrister said, “If we want to resolve our issues, we need political power,” indicating that no change was possible without political involvement.

When asked if he was not aware that any communal polarization in Gujarat always helped the BJP, he shot back, “There is no polarization.  If a certain party could engineer communal riots and speak only for one community, what is wrong if we raise the issues of the Muslims as well as other backward classes and tribals?”

He emphasized as he repeatedly does that his security and hope was in the Indian Constitution and stated, “AIMIM members only fear God, will counter Hindutva with Indian Constitution.”

In a spirited speech, he declared, “India belongs to everyone, every religion and every person,” sending out a message of inclusiveness.

Asaduddin Owaisi in keeping with the momentum of passion for justice and good governance, emphasizing his inclusiveness for all religions, castes and with massive crowds cheering him on, it seems to be setting positive vibes for him.
