Washington: The outgoing US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo accused China of massacring the Uygars and the main Muslim community there.
President Joe Biden’s nominee for the position of Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, who was elected for the future Secretary of State, also agreed with Mike Pompeo, according to a BBC report.
Rights groups have also accused China of detaining Uygars in the last few years as a “re-education camp”.
This report states that China is using Uyghurs as forced labor. Tensions with China had risen in the Trump administration. The confrontation between the two countries during the Covid epidemic has affected trade policies and also led to a massacre against the Uygars.
Mr. Pompeo said, “I believe this genocide is ongoing, and that we are witnessing the systematic attempt to destroy Uighurs by the Chinese party-state.” He said that Communist Party authorities are engaged in the forced assimilation and eventual erasure of a vulnerable ethnic and religious minority group.
