Nandigram: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today challenged Shubhanshu Adhikari, who left the party and joined the BJP, and announced that she would contest from Nandigram along with Bhawanipur assembly constituency.
In 2016, Shubhanshu Adhikari won from Nandigram assembly constituency on a Trinamool Congress (AITMC) ticket and has now joined BJP.
Addressing a large public rally at Takhali in Nandigram, Mamata Banerjee said that Nandigram is close to my heart. “I can forget my name but cannot forget Nandigram. Given my emotional attachment with the people of Nandigram, today I am announcing that I want to contest the next election from Nandigram”, she said.

‘I request my state president Subroto Bakshi to consider my name as a candidate from Nandigram in the 2021 state elections. I will not pay my attention to Bhawanipur seat. I promise the people of Bhawanipur that I will put up a good candidate there’, she said.
It is worth noting that Mamata Banerjee came to power in 2011 after ending the 34-year rule of the Left Front due to the Left Front’s land acquisition movement in Nandigram and Singur.
The Trinamool Congress wants Mamata Banerjee to contest from Nandigram as part of a special strategy and send a message to the people of the state that Mamata Banerjee is still with the people and not afraid of the BJP’s conspiracies. Since the number of Muslim voters in this constituency is important, Mamata Banerjee will have no difficulty in winning the election.

Nandigram Assembly constituency
This constituency is located in East Medinipur district of West Bengal. The seat was first won by the Trinamool Congress in 2009. Feroze Bibi was given a ticket. Feroze Bibi also won in 2011. But in 2016, Shubhendu Adhikari had won on the same Trinamool Congress ticket.
Reacting to Banerjee’s announcement, BJP’s Amit Malviya said that Mamta Banerjee’s decision to move from Bhawanipur to Nandigram for the first time in 10 years reflected her political nervousness.
