13 metro stations in Washington will remain closed from January 15 to 21 and rail service will run as scheduled. Security will be beefed up on about 26 bus routes.

Washington: Metro officials in the US capital Washington have decided to close 13 metro stations before the swearing-in ceremony of elected President Joseph Biden.

The traffic administration said in a statement issued here that from January 15 to January 21, 13 metro stations will remain closed and train services will continue as per specific schedule. In addition, security around 26 bus routes will be increased. Mr. Biden’s swearing-in ceremony has been scheduled for 20 January.

On January 6, at least five people were killed in an attack allegedly by Trump supporters on the US Parliament Capitol Hill angered by the election results.

The FBI has issued a warning of violence during Mr. Biden’s swearing-in ceremony, which has caused beefing up the security in the area. Thousands of police personnel will also be deployed for caution during the swearing-in ceremony.

Mr. Trump has appealed to his supporters not to resort to violence. Earlier on Monday, Donald Trump announced a state of emergency in Washington on Biden’s swearing-in ceremony in Washington DC.
