New Delhi: Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi today praised the bravery of the Indian Army in liberating Bangladesh in 1971, saying that at that time the leadership of the country was in strong hands and neighboring countries were afraid of violating the border.
Mr. Gandhi tweeted, “Congratulations to the people of India on the occasion of India’s historic victory over Pakistan in 1971 and salute the bravery of the army.”

He said, “It was a time when India’s neighbors considered the Indian Prime Minister as an iron fist and were afraid of violating our country’s borders.”
It is worth mentioning that after a 13-day war between India and Pakistan on 16 December 1971, the Pakistan Army surrendered unconditionally to the Indian Army and Bangladesh became independent. Mrs. Indira Gandhi was the Prime Minister of India at that time.
