Home Minister Amit Shah reiterated his commitment to implement the Citizenship Amendment Act across the country once Covid epidemic is brought under control

Kolkata: Union Home Minister Amit Shah today reiterated his commitment to implement the Citizenship Amendment Act across the country, saying that the Citizenship Amendment Act will be implemented across the country once the coronavirus epidemic comes under control.

Amit Shah was on a two-day visit to West Bengal, where assembly elections are scheduled for April or May next year. He vowed to win the Modi-led Bengal Assembly elections, saying that Mamata Banerjee’s tenure in Bengal was coming to an end. He said that all refugees in the country would be given Indian citizenship. Just waiting for the coronavirus epidemic to get under control

The Citizenship (Amendment) Act, or CAA, is the first time that Indian citizenship has been governed on the basis of religion. Critics of the law say it discriminates against Muslims and violates the secular credentials of the constitution.

Delay caused by epidemic

Amit Shah had passed the law in the parliament in December last year. After the law was passed, there were protests all over the country and the protests were stopped after the lockdown caused by the coronavirus outbreak.

Amit Shah said that victims of religious atrocities in these countries would be given Indian citizenship. The Congress, Communist Parties, Samajwadi Party, Asaduddin Owaisi’s Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen are against the law.

Those opposing the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) have argued that Amit Shah has spoken of implementing the NRC across the country, which could lead to the loss of Muslim citizenship. While Amit Shah and the BJP kept saying that this law is not against Muslims.
