Yogi govt blocks Rahul Gandhi’s visit to UP, meantime Sachin Pilot set to go

Big clash between Congress and Yogi govt over Rahul Gandhi’s impending visit to Lakhimpur Kheri to visit the family members of the killed.

This showdown seems imminent between the Uttar Pradesh government and the Congress party after the Yogi Adityanath government refused permission to Rahul Gandhi and four other leaders to meet Priyanka Gandhi Vadra who is in custody in Sitapur since Monday, it was reported here on Wednesday.

The Yogi government also denied permission to Rahul Gandhi to meet the family members of the farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri on Wednesday.

Lucknow police commissioner D K Thakur said here on Wednesday that Rahul Gandhi and other Congress leaders will not be allowed to come out of the airport as permission has not been given to them for their visit.

Rahul Gandhi along with Punjab Chief Minister Charanjeet Singh Channi and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel was scheduled to reach Lucknow on Wednesday afternoon.

Notably, the district authorities of Sitapur, Lakhimpur Kheri, and even Bahriach have deployed heavy security and have asked the telecom companies to shut internet services in these three districts.

The borders of Sitapur and Lakhimpur Kheri have been sealed and no politicians will be allowed to enter these two districts, police sources here said. The internet services in Lakhimpur Kheri, which was stopped on Sunday, was partially restored on Tuesday night but was again lines were completely snapped on Wednesday morning.

Internet services in Sitapur and Bahriach were stopped from Wednesday morning. In Lucknow too, after the promulgation of section 144 on Tuesday night, the authorities have stepped up security in the state capital on Wednesday.

More forces have been deployed at the airport. On the other hand, Congress leader from Rajasthan Sachin Pilot has left for Sitapur from Jaipur this morning along with Pramod Krishnan.
