The official YouTube channel of the Supreme Court of India was taken offline on Friday after a hacking incident earlier in the morning. The court has assured that the channel’s services will be restored shortly.
In an official statement, Registrar (Technology) Hargurvarinder Singh Jaggi confirmed, “The YouTube channel of the Supreme Court of India has been taken down due to a hacking incident. Services will resume shortly.”
Earlier in the day, the channel was compromised and began displaying videos related to Ripple, a US-based cryptocurrency company. One of the hacked videos featured the title, “Brad Garlinghouse: Ripple Responds To The SEC’s $2 Billion Fine! XRP PRICE PREDICTION,” causing confusion among viewers.
With over 2 lakh subscribers, the Supreme Court’s YouTube channel is regularly used to live-stream important cases, including constitutional bench hearings and other public interest matters. Following the breach, the channel’s link displayed content related to Ripple Labs, but it has since been disabled.
The Supreme Court’s IT team is actively working to restore the channel and ensure security against further incidents.
