During his visit to Male on Saturday, EAM Jaishankar met with Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) President Abdulla Shahid, who expressed confidence in India’s continued support for the Maldives. Shahid acknowledged the economic and diplomatic challenges faced due to the previous government’s anti-India stance and welcomed the shift towards stronger bilateral relations.

The MDP also released a statement praising the various India-funded projects and the exchange of notes to train an additional 1,000 civil service officers under a key human resource program initiated during President Solih’s administration.

Furthermore, on Saturday, EAM Jaishankar handed over a significant water and sanitation project worth USD 110 million to the Maldives, also funded by India. This visit marks Jaishankar’s first trip to the island nation since his re-appointment for a second term.
